Hiking Ohiopyle

We've lived in Ohio our whole life and when I first heard of Ohiopyle I kept thinking it was in Ohio. It's not! Ohiopyle is a cute little town in Pennsylvania with tons of hiking spots!

This quaint Pennsylvania town is surrounded by the most beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls!

Ohiopyle Falls

Directly across the street from the little town is a beautiful park with a trail that follows the Youghiogheny River. There are plenty of benches to sit and relax. or places to enjoy a picnic lunch.

As you follow the trail towards the visitors center, be sure to check out the three observation decks that overlook the Ohiopyle Falls. Each deck gives you a different view of the 20-foot waterfall.

The visitors center has an indoor glass observation deck with another beautiful view of the falls. If you like history, be sure to check out the many exhibits in the visitor center to learn about the geology and history of the area. This is a great place to use clean bathrooms too!

If you continue past the visitor center, the path takes you to Cucumber Falls and Meadow Run Slides. The path is marked by these painted shoe prints that lead the way. The different colors lead you to the different areas.

Meadow Run

Meadow Run is a beautiful stream that flows through the park. The Meadow Run trail is a 2.9 mile loop trail that follows this stream. If you are looking for a trail with great water views this is it! This trail takes hikers past waterfalls, rock formations and natural water slides.. It's absolutely beautiful and probably our favorite trail in the park.

Cucumber Falls

Cucumber Falls is a 30 waterfall that is best seen after a heavy rain fall. This is a short easy hike from the Cucumber Falls parking lot or you can access it off the Meadow Run trail.

Ferncliff Peninsula

The Ferncliff Peninsula is just over the bridge on the other side of the river from the visitor center. The Ferncliff Trail gives you a different view of the Ohiopyle Falls. It is a 2-mile loop trail that goes through the forests, meadows and riverbanks. This is an easy trail that is great for children and families. Our favorite part of this trail was the falls overlook!

Note: Cell service is spotty in the Ohiopyle area. Make sure you have directions printed out before you visit.

Baughman Overlook

Baughman Overlook has the most beautiful view! It is a short uphill walk from the parking area that opens up with this panoramic view that is worth the hike. Locals say this is a great place to watch the sunrise.

Jonathan Run Falls

Jonathan Run Falls trail was another one of our favorite trails. It is a beautiful trail through the woods with breathtaking water views. It is so peaceful walking along the trail listening to the water ripple over the rocks below. This is a 3.7 mile out and back trail.

Every trail we hiked throughout the park had beautiful water views, but there were also lots of other interesting things to see along the trails. As you walk, look all around and you never know what you will see. From tiny intricate plants to lots of different fungus, and wildlife!

Ohiopyle is a must see for outdoor enthusiasts! Plan your vacation today!
